ALT shortcut keys for the registered trademarks                                                                                                                Trade Mark

Have you ever wanted to add the  ® symbol to the end of a word or name to indicate that it was a registered word or trademark? In the past to accomplish this, I would go to Google and type in "r symbol" . This was  a little awkward and it takes a few steps as you have to also copy and paste the ® symbol into your article.

A Trademark can designated with the following symbols

  • (for an unregistered trademark that is, a mark used to promote or brand goods)
  • (for an unregistered service mark, that is, a mark used to promote or brand services)
  • ® (for a registered trademark)

Well after dealing with the inefficient way to add a trademark symbol to the registered words that I was typing I did a little research and found a few very valuable shortcuts that work on the Windows operating system. You simply have to hold down the ALT key and type in some numbers.

This is especially effective for words that you may use a lot and since I write for the real estate industry on a regular basis I happen to type the word Real Estate Professional often enough that I do not have to work at remembering the shortcut. I like the shortcuts because they work with pretty much all or the word or copy editors on your PC.

I will share the shortcuts with you here:

Registered Trademark ® - Hold down the ALT 0174

Trademark ™ - Hold down the  ALT 0153

For the Service mark ℠  the shortcut and setup is a lot more work, so I would recommend the copy paste technique.

Another way to get these symbols is in many copy editing software programs is to insert the letters in brackets (TM) and you might get lucky and have the letters convert to the appropriate symbol.

For the MAC - To create an ® symbol, simply hold down he option and click  "r"
