Canadian Real Estate Professionals Beware

I just took this off of a Real Estate Professionals page and I think it is something all
Canadian real estate agents should be very concerned about.

Today is the last day to voice your concerns over Industry Canada's imposing limitations on contacting past clients via email.They are proposing that you will not be allowed to contact past clients after three years without consent from the client. I encourage you to email them today at info@ic.gc.ca

The concerned agent wrote the following wrote them the following...

"I am writing in objection to the two year limit on contacting past clients. The sales cycle for a Real Estate Professional is approximately seven (7) years as that is the average time in which Canadian’s move. Limiting our ability to keep in touch with past clients via E Newsletters and periodic market updates sent by email will impact my business and hence the amount of taxes I pay to the Government of Canada. I don’t understand why the bureaucrats of the Government are systematically choking the life out of the entrepreneurial spirit of businesses, especially small businesses, when all levels of Government supposedly support and endorse business efforts. If you kill businesses ability to generate business the unemployment rate will skyrocket,revenue to the Government will decline and Government jobs will be in jeopardy.

Significant Lobbying Success Eases Burden of Compliance for Real Estate Professionals

When anti-spam rules that regulate the sending of commercial e-mail, text and other electronic communication come into force sometime this year, they will be much easier to comply with as a result of extensive and intensive lobbying by Real Estate Professionals and CREA. Seven lobbying successes, highlighted below, preserve important marketing practices and significantly ease the compliance burden of this framework.

1.A transitional provision allows Real Estate Professionals to send electronic messages to clients without express consent for three years, provided the relationship existed before the new rules come into force.

2.The amount of time Real Estate Professionals can stay in touch with a client without express consent after a sale was extended by an additional six months to 24 months total.

3.Real Estate Professionals can follow up with a potential client after exchanging contact information, including at a networking event, so long as the message is relevant to the recipient's business.

4.Express consent to send commercial electronic messages can be obtained orally or in writing. Prior to our lobbying efforts consent could only be acquired in writing.

5.A tremendous amount of information about the sender was required in a request for consent to send an e-mail and in each subsequent message. Our efforts reduced the required amount significantly to include only basic contact information.

6.A requirement to have a website in order to send a commercial electronic message was removed.

7.The regime's unsubscribe requirement was significantly streamlined. Real Estate Professionals only need to provide a single functioning unsubscribe mechanism to consumers.

Materials for Real Estate Professionals, Boards and Associations that outline obligations in a format that is easy to understand and implement will be available well before members need to comply with the new rules.

Back to Page One on Google [The PROOF]

Getting to page one of Google can be a daunting task, especially at times when Google makes changes to their algorithms. However the truth is, almost anyone can do this by following the rules.

Being on page one of Google will definitely affect your businesses bottom line, whether you are trying attract and manage Internet leads, or sell products.

I went through Google’s updates called the Panda and Penguin and was bumped off page one. So I stepped back to look at why Google does what they do, knowing this will make an incredible difference in the way you build your website and therefore the cause and effect on your page rank and then of course your bottom line. Look at it this way, Google wants to reward you, not punish you. They simply want to have the best pages at the top of the search engines that make the experience for the end user as beneficial and rewarding as possible.

Makes sense doesn’t it? We have all had the experience of doing a Google search, where every page we clicked on was junk. That is why Google does what they do; they really want the searcher to be happy with their search results. Your job then is to create a website that does just that.

Before Penguin, Google released a series of algorithm updates called Panda, with the first appearing in February 2011. Panda aimed at down ranking websites that provided poor user experience. To identify such websites, a machine-learning algorithm by Navneet Panda was used, hence the name. The algorithm follows the logic by which Google’s human quality raters determine a website’s quality.
In January 2012, so-called page layout algorithm update was released, which targeted websites with little content above the fold. This is the part of the page that you see when you open you browser, hence below the fold is not viewable.

The strategic goal that Panda andPenguin aim for is to display higher quality websites at the top of Google’s search results. However, sites that were down ranked as the result of these updates have different sets of characteristics. The main target of Google Penguin is spamdexing (including link bombing).

Spamdexing is the repeating of phrases or keywords multiple times in a row, and link bombing is the purchasing links that are of low quality and have little or no relevance to your websites overall characteristics. These activities will get you penalized causing your web page rank to suffer. The secret is to build quality backlinks, using strategies that Google sees as appropriate, again this is super easy to do!

I have sites all over the Internet that are on page one of Google, as a matter of fact to prove it, if you watch this video. You will see that for one search term, I often have up to six websites that show up on page one of Google. How’s that for page rank domination!

This was brought to my attention this past summer, however I was a little slow to act on it. In part because I like to work a schedule that I call maintenance mode during July and August.

Let me explain, I adhere to the general thought that one deserves a good rest and should also work their butts off at other times. So with that said, I like to take July and August off and just to the stuff that takes care of business and not go overboard looking for new business. From September to Mid December it’s all work and very little play, rounding out the working calendar from Mid January I like to hit the road running and do a long distance sprint straight through the end of June.

The Calendar

  • Mid December to mid January – Maintenance mode
  • Mid January to the end of June  go like crazy – Work mode
  • July and August enjoy life – Maintenance mode
  • September to Mid December sprint to the finish line – Work mode
